Where the ferry leaves from
The Amsterdam - Newcastle ferry does not leave from central Amsterdam but from IJmuiden on the North Sea coast, where the North Sea Canal meets the sea. The terminal is at Sluisplein 33, 1975 AG IJmuiden and is open from 09:00 to 17:45. DFDS sails from here to North Shields every day at 17:30.
By car
By car you drive straight to the terminal. Check-in closes at 16:45, and vehicles with low ground clearance need to arrive earlier. The deadlines are on the Check-in page.
Parking at the terminal
If you are travelling to England on foot or taking the mini cruise, you can leave your car at the terminal. The car park is right at the terminal, fenced and covered by CCTV. By train and bus
Trains do not run to the port. Take the train to Beverwijk and the local bus from there to IJmuiden. There is free Wi-Fi at the port.
The transfer bus from Amsterdam
The DFDS transfer bus is easier. It leaves from De Ruijterkade 153 behind Amsterdam Centraal station at 15:30 and 16:00 and takes 30 to 40 minutes to reach the terminal. Your booking confirmation is your ticket, and the bus should be booked in advance. You can only take luggage you can carry yourself. In the other direction the bus takes arriving passengers from the terminal into central Amsterdam. When the weather turns
